If there is anything I can say about our stay at El Flamboyan, it would be outstanding — Wilma and Nico are the Superhosts of all Superhosts on Airbnb. They have built themselves a little piece of paradise in Playa Bonita that they take great pride in, and they exert every effort to ensure their guests’ needs are met. We stayed in their villa for one month – and decided to stay for another six weeks after. I found an extended “working vacation” that allowed full immersion into the local culture, and Wilma and Nico were huge contributors to that experience. Wilma has created a most spectacular space with walkways winding through gardens containing a wide variety of flowers and plants that include avocado, lemon, orange, cacao, mango, and banana trees. Their bananas were free for the picking and the best I’d ever eaten! Nico acted as a wonderful tour guide and chauffeur, showing us places of interest, where to shop and do our banking, and modeled how to happily live as an expat in Las Terrenas. They invited all guests to the occasional Sunday BBQ — one time, seven countries and languages were represented — and everyone was welcome to join and share in the festivity of food, drinks, and fun. One evening, I was invited to go out with them for drinks and dancing – and they even arranged a babysitter for me. They connected well with my nine-year-old son, and they treated both of us as if we were family rather than merely guests. If I could give them more than five stars in my review, I would. We’re already looking at returning next year! If you’re looking for an all-inclusive getaway in a DR resort town, look elsewhere. But if you’d rather a unique, personalized stay in a bustling and vibrant little town where you’ll see the true taste and culture of the Dominican Republic — guided by two lovely people with 20 years’ experience — come to El Flamboyan. You’ll be happy you did!
